New York, NY (December 6, 2010)
FXB USA, the US branch of the international nonprofit organization FXB International (fxb.org), is in the final two weeks of its Beads from Beneficiaries Holiday Fundraising Campaign. Through this campaign, the organization strives to reach a goal of raising $8,000 in donations to benefit its programs worldwide. As a special touch, in return for a donation of just $40, FXB will send to the recipient of the donor’s choice a special thank you gift including a handmade beaded necklace from FXB Uganda and a holiday card featuring the story of a woman who has benefited from FXB’s programs.
Each necklace from FXB USA’s Beads from Beneficiaries campaign represents an environmentally and socially responsible solution to overcoming the affects of poverty and AIDS. The women in FXB’s programs often have no means of earning an income prior to joining the FXB-Village Network three-year program. Many are widows and mothers struggling to support the children in their care. FXB provides these women with the tools they need to become self-sufficient, including skills training and supplies to start a new trade.
Many of FXB’s female beneficiaries in Uganda choose to make necklaces by hand from recycled paper and glass beads as their income generating activity. Colorful paper is hand rolled to create festive beads, giving each necklace a unique appearance. The income these women make selling their crafts at the local markets allows them to feed and care for their families, send their children to school, and open savings accounts to prepare for the future.
Donations raised through the Beads from Beneficiaries campaign will allow FXB International to continue to provide a comprehensive package of support to families enrolled in its programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America as they get back on their feet.
Here are some of the many ways a contribution to FXB can help support a family:
- EDUCATION – $40 can help 2 children attend school for a year by paying for books, supplies, uniforms, and other expenses.
- INCOME – $40 can provide a young vocational trainee with the tools and supplies to start a new trade.
- NUTRITION -$40 can help provide 6 months of emergency nutritional support to a malnourished child.
- HEALTH – $40 can cover 1 year of health care expenses for a family.
- SAFETY – $40 can provide two families with malaria nets.
