FXB International Releases Report Revealing Substantial Impact of the FXB-Village Model

(New York, NY) – Today FXB International released the report Removing “Unfreedoms”, Decreasing Vulnerability in Economic and Food Security: Year 1 Results of the FXB Village Network Model in Rwanda and Uganda, authored by FXB International and the Harvard FXB Center for Health and Human Rights. Among other improvements, the report shows that FXB’s integrated model of support for basic needs and financial training leads to an increase in food security, economic assets, and education.

Some of the findings in the report include:

Increases in Food Security:

The number of Rwandan families who went at least one day without food in the last three months decreased by 79% after one year in an FXB-Village. In Uganda, the number decreased by 77%.

Before entering an FXB-Village, 31.7% of households in Rwanda and 16.2% of households in Uganda averaged only one meal per day.  After one year, 99% of households in both countries averaged 2 or more meals per day.

Creation of Savings:

In Rwanda the number of households that had enough money left for saving in a typical month increased by 594% after one year in an FXB-Village.  In Uganda that number increased 204%.

Better Access to Clean Drinking Water:

After one year, the number of households who treated their water to make it safer to drink had increased by 41% in Rwanda and by 105% in Uganda.

Improved Health:

Cases of diarrhea in children under 5 in the past month dropped by 58% in Rwanda and 59% in Uganda.

Increased School Enrollment:

The number of families who said a lack of financial resources prevented school aged children in the household from attending school on a regular basis decreased by 91% in Rwanda and 83% in Uganda after one year in an FXB-Village.

FXB International CEO Sean Mayberry stated: “these results show that FXB has created a 3 year program that consistently lifts children and their families out of poverty. We are working hard to significantly scale-up this model, and ultimately help many thousands more people in Africa and Asia.”
