FXB Awarded Grant from U.S Government
Dec. 1, 2008 - On World AIDS Day, the US Government announced that it is awarding FXB a $3.3 million grant through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The funds will go specifically towards FXB’s work to support orphans and vulnerable children in Rwanda and Uganda.
With the grant, FXB will be able to expand its signature program, the FXB-Villages, tremendously. Through the Village program, FXB works to improve the health, education, and economic opportunity of children and families hit hardest by poverty and AIDS.
With the grant, FXB will launch 12 new FXB-Villages in Rwanda and 8 FXB-Villages in Uganda in 2009, reaching approximately 100,000 individuals.
“This is a very important achievement for FXB, not only because it will allow us to expand our reach, but also because it opens the door for future partnerships with PEPFAR and USAID,” said FXB’s Director of Program Operations, Jean-Marc Foëx.
FXB’s grant is awarded under the New Partners’ Initiative, a broader program within PEPFAR to work with new organizations and improve their capacities. “This is a great opportunity for FXB to grow. It really shows the US government’s interest in our work,” said Foëx.
PEPFAR is a multi-billion dollar initiative launched to combat AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria around the world. According to PEPFAR, nearly 10.1 million people affected by HIV/AIDS have received care since 2003, including nearly 4 million children.
